Term 1 Week 3 Learning Log
It is one of Shakespeare's creation that Mr Chua told us that we will be doing.It is about a guy name Bassanio,who wishes to win the love of a rich women called Portia.But he is too poor to do so.So,he asks his friend,Antonio to lend him three thousand ducats to help him.Antonio,whose money is tied up in his overseas business,borrows some money from a Jewish moneylender called Shylock but in one condition,Antonio must pay the money back to Shylock by the exact day,otherwise Shylock will take one pond of Antonio's flesh as payment for the loan.With the money,Bassanio won Portia's hand,but news arrives that Antonio's ship carrying his wealth has sunk and Antonio is unable to return the debt.Shylock then goes to the court of Venice to get his pound of flesh.Unknown to the rest,Portia and her maid,Nerissa,disguise as a male lawyer and male clerk goes to Antonio's defence.
After reading it,I find it interesting and nice as it shows that someone is able to go as far as paying ten times the sum of money and sacrificing parts of his body just to ave his friend in trouble.I have learned that friends are also an important part of our lives.Without friends,We won't be able to share our worries with them.Mr Chua asked some of us the be a certain characters and act out.He then ask us to find the personalities of a certain characters in the play.
