Term1 Week 9 learning log
Mon
Ms Maly came into our class and taught us instead of Mr Chua. She told us to get into groups of 4 and each group were given an envelope containing strips of paper. We were then asked to arrange it to form the correct sonnet. After that she gave us a worksheet about one of Shakespeare's sonnet and it goes like this,
1. Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
2. Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
3. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
4. And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
5. Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
6. And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
7. And every fair from fair sometime declines,
8. By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
9. But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
10. Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
11. Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
12. When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
13. So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
14. So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
For our home work,we were asked to re write the sonnet by replacing some words with pictures. We were told that there will be an extra lesson on Wednesday at the Library. When I heard that there will be an extra lesson,I was a little shock and I was thinking,"WHAT THE...." I feel that the lesson was quite interesting as we got to see one of Shakespeare's Marvelous sonnet and I wish that we will get another chance to see some of his famous works again.I think that if the world now has another William Shakespeare,it will be great as I think that all his works are fantastic.
Wednesday

After having lunch we settled down in the library with friends from 2Thinking and do what we do best, goof around! Then we were super noisy and were scolded by Ms Maly. After awhile, we finally settled down and we were group with equal number of students from each class. Then,we were given worksheets for us to do and we watched a scene from The Merchant Of Venice. After watching it,we were asked to identify each of the character's traits and write them down in the worksheet. We were also asked to write four of our own questions about Merchant Of Venice or Romeo and Juliet.I feel that the lesson was a little hectic as we were very noisy and we had to do many things in just 1 hour. When I saw the Merchant Of Venice's casts,I was shocked.I was expecting Bassanio to be a fine young man while Portia a beautiful woman, not a old man and old woman.I was also expecting Shylock to be a very angry man with a deep voice, but I didn't know that he was an old and man with a tone which does not express his anger.I find it interesting that couples where by they are already very old,are still very romantic and it shows that they still loves each other, like Portia and Bassanio.
Friday
Mr Chua gave us five minutes to check our worksheet where we have to write our own question about romeo and Juliet and Merchant of Venice. Then we were asked to line up outside and we proceed to the 4th floor. There,Mr Chua asked those who have not do their worksheet to sit at one corner below the staircase to do while those who have done, get into pairs. Then,he asked us to asked our partner our question while our partner must rate the question.I was partnering with Keefe then with Hakim. After that,we went back to class and Mr Chua told us to hand in our worksheet.I feel that the lesson was very short and rushed.I think it's because of the common test.I think the idea of letting us set our own questions was a good idea as some of the questions we wrote may come out for the common test and it will help us prepare for it.
